Our Founder and CEO, Andy Loomis, had been an MIT engineer for nearly 25 years when he decided to turn his passion into a reality. Specializing in electrical and materials engineering, Andy combined his engineering knowledge with his passion for fishing. After looking online at other products, he decided he could make them brighter and more affordable for the average daily fisherman.
Here at Loomis LED, we offer incredibly high lumen per dollar ratios across the board ultimately returning value to customers. For example, we offer a 36 lumen per dollar ratio in white light in the underwater transom lighting industry; the next highest competitor offers 6.57 lumens per dollar. In essence, we offer 5.5 times more light for the cost in that industry.
Now you may ask, “How do we keep our lights so affordable?” To keep costs low, we don’t use custom manufactured parts made from injection molding. Instead, we utilize common parts found in hardware stores alongside previously manufactured products to keep costs low. While our lights may not be pretty in design or packaging, we pass these savings on to customers because these lights will be submerged underwater where you don’t see them anyways.
Our light design is fairly consistent across the board. First, we custom machine aluminum blocks with machine automated CNC milling machines. Next, we professionally solder the LEDs to a custom-designed aluminum/copper hybrid high heat-dissipating board. Then, we thermally adhere the board to the custom machined mirror surface aluminum blocks for total long term cooling. Once the board has adhered to the block, we place it inside a PVC housing. We seal the backside of our aluminum block with 3M 4200 and then fully embed the block with epoxy. The unbreakable lens is then glued to seal the lighthead. Finally, we drill holes in the aluminum block for total long term cooling.
Over the past 8 years, we have come a long way. From updating and testing our design, to building a comprehensive assortment of fully designed products. To keep lights running longer, we run our LEDs at a 70% power consumption where they get more light and less heat energy. We use Cree 3535 ceramic package with Epiled high power chips and GE high-temperature silicone domes with solid gold bond wires for long term durability and life. When run properly, these LEDs will last for around 40,000 hours. Therefore, you can expect your lights to last around 27 years at 4 hours a day of use.
Over the past 8 years in business, we have had very few light failures. We offer a 2-year warranty behind every light because we stand behind our USA manufactured product. After our 2 year warranty, if the light fails, we offer an additional warranty; to keep everyone happy, we will split the cost of a new light with the customer, or give them in-store credit equivalent to half of the purchase price of their light.
