High-Intensity 72 Watt LED Underwater Surface Mount Transom Light
Introducing our 72 Watt LED Surface Mount Transom Light. Incredibly bright, affordable, and easy to install, you can easily surface mount this to the back of your transom on your boat. We offer the highest lumens per dollar in the underwater transom lighting industry; ultimately, giving our customers an incredibly bright light for the cost. Designed for boaters and fishermen alike, this underwater transom light will lure all sorts of aquatic life to the boat when fishing at night.
High-Intensity
Built with (24) 3 Watt LEDs for a total of 72 Watts, you will get incredibly high lumen output from this LED underwater transom light. They will illuminate a 140° beam angle in a single wavelength from the back of your boat. Depending on the LED color, lumen output will differ. We make a brighter version in 40 LEDs here.
Lumen output per Color
- White produces 180 lumens per LED * 24 = 4320 lumens
- Green produces 130 lumens per LED * 24 = 3120 lumens
- Aqua produces 110 lumens per LED * 24 = 2640 lumens
- Red produces 90 lumens per LED * 24 = 2160 lumens
- Blue produces 50 lumens per LED * 24 = 1200 lumens
Fish Attractant
For night fishing, this surface mount transom light will attract all sorts of marine life. Use these lights for bait fishing, tuna fishing, swordfishing, striped bass fishing, etc. They attract all sorts of marine life which in turn attracts the game fish. To learn more, read our article, “Why do Underwater Lights Attract Fish?” here.
Design
In this light, we use (24) Cree 3535 LEDs directly soldered to a copper board. The board is then thermally-adhered to a 6061 machined aluminum disc. To wire up the light, we use military-grade Teflon wire that is both durable and corrosion-proof. To seal the lighthead, we house it in an attractive gray 3.5″ diameter flanged PVC flush mount fitting that is only 1.75″ tall. Next, we pour in epoxy to embed the lighthead for both total long term waterproofness and corrosion resistance. To seal the lighthead fully, we glue the front of the lighthead with an indestructible Lexan lens. Fully tested at 90°F stagnant water with thermal cameras, thermocouple probes, and IR lasers. A thermal protection switch is embedded in the light and will automatically turn off when the light reaches 120°F. Manufactured in the USA, our lights will last a lifetime of use.
Boat Size Purchasing Recommendations
Depending on boat size, we recommend purchasing 1 to 4 of these lights. For boats less than 20′, we recommend purchasing 2 24 LED or 40 LED transom lights. For boats greater than 20′, we recommend purchasing anywhere from 2 – 4 transom lights. To decide mounting location go as deep below the waterline as possible as opposed to mounting the lights further apart in width. The beam angle will keep more light below the waterline leading to better illumination.
Surface Mount Easy Installation
Simple to mount with only (2) 1/8″ holes for the included stainless screws and no big holes to drill in your hull. Hookup your surface mount transom light to a charging or non-charging 12 VDC battery at 12-14.5 VDC and you’re ready to go. Make sure not to shorten the cables as it will affect the resistance of the wire and will increase electrical output to the light causing it to overheat and fail.
Maintenance
To maintain, rinse off the saltwater after boating as it will corrode the metal slowly when it is exposed to air. Additionally, coat the PVC with a thin layer of waterproof marine grease to greatly reduce or eliminate marine growth and only require a monthly periodic reapplication. Make sure the lights are never operated out of the water as overheating can still damage the LEDs. In addition, make sure to turn off lights when on a plane as they are don’t have direct water cooling. If you follow these steps, your light will last a lifetime of use.
